Photo & Video Editing
Developing an editing style is the easiest way to build a cohesive “theme” on your Instagram page. This helps build trust and makes your brand look waaaay more professional!
VSCO - My go-to for photo editing - comes with really lovely filters and editing tools
Colourtone - Photo & Video - Really gorgeous filters and editing tools for photo and video
Snapseed - Fantastic for more in-depth editing while still being super easy to use. My favourite feature is selective editing, so you can choose an area to edit instead of the entire photo.
KUNI Cam - a ton of really beautiful filters and overlays inspired by film cameras. Some free options but cheap to upgrade to the paid app.
Adobe Lightroom - Lightroom is the OG photo editing software, and nowadays you can get it as a free phone app too! If sticking a filter over an image isn’t really your style, Lightroom is great for in-depth editing options
8mm - Photo & Video - Love this app for adding a vintage camera filter over videos
Animoto - PAID - With the Instagram algorithm favouring video more & more now has never been a time to jump in and learn how to create great videos. Animoto makes it really easy and you can even make videos out of still images if you haven’t gotten around to filming yet.
Post & Story Templates
Unfold - Pretty, simple story templates and some very nice, cheap paid options too (I purchased the FF1 set and have never looked back!)
StoryLuxe - Similar to Unfold but with a different edge - I love the film borders and use them very frequently
Nichi - The cutest app! Has many templates and design elements you can layer to create scrap-book style images
Mojo - Really pretty animated story templates, many of which are geared toward businesses/marketing (and could work well for making Instagram story ads too)
Canva - I think everyone knows about Canva by now but if not you totally need to get on there! Templates and design assets galore!
Creative Market - If you’re looking for something a bit more unique there are countless talented creators on Creative Market. Usually the templates are for use on Photoshop and/or Canva
Scheduling & Planning
Planoly - My favourite Instagram scheduling app with so many handy features beyond just scheduling - you can save hashtag sets, save post drafts, schedule stories, search users and hashtags for content to repost (great if you’re doing influencer campaigns!), analytic tools, reply to comments, and you can also add team members and send reports if more than 1 person needs to do approvals on content.
Buffer - Allows for scheduling for a range of different social networks (great if you have multiple channels) and is the most cost effective I’ve found for when you are managing a larger volume of accounts. The biggest downside is there is no Instagram grid preview for scheduled posts unless you are on one of the Pro business paid plans.
Growth Management & Campaign Tracking
PeopleMap - The absolute best tool for tracking on Insta. You can use it to find influencers, track influencer campaigns, track brand mentions, create lists of potential clients and collaborations, and it’s super handy for implementing growth strategy because it allows you to analyse other accounts followers (so you can easily find & interact with people in your target market!). They have a decent trial period too so I totally recommend jumping on and having a play to see if it works for you.
There you have it! Everything I use to create content & manage client Instagram accounts. There’s a healthy mix of free & paid options to suit whatever stage you are at in your Instagram marketing journey.
